The phrase bossa nova was first used by Antonio Carlos Jobim to describe João Gilberto's music, but it was Jobim more than anyone else who defined the bossa nova sound. Charlie Byrd fell in love with Brazilian music during a tour of Brazil in 1961. When he returned, he recorded Jazz Samba together with Stan Getz and Bossa Nova was here. Today, Bebel Gilberto defines the modern bossa nova sound. Be sure to check our jazz section also for great guitarists like Baden Powell and Laurindo Almeida who have been involved in bossa nova.
