The national holidays in Brazil are New Year's Day, Carnival, Good Friday, Tiradentes Day, Labor Day, Corpus Christi, Independence Day, Our Lady of Aperecida, All Souls' Day, Republic Day, and Christmas. Some states have additional holidays. Several of the holidays have special national songs which children are required to learn in school.

Easter Sunday, a Sunday in March or April. Easter Monday is not a holiday in Brazil.

Discovery Day, April 22. Anniversary of the discovery of Brazil by Pedro Alvarez Cabral in 1500.

Lovers' Day, June 12. Dia dos Namorados. Customs are similar to those of Valentine's Day.

Arbor Day, September 21. Dia dos Arvores, or "Arbor Day", is a day for planting a tree. In the United States this day in in April, but in Brazil they moved it to September to coincide with the beginning of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere.

Air Force Day, October 23. Dia da Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB)

Flag Day, November 19.
