What The Press Is Saying
Sultry, tropical, and wistfully sexy, Bebel Gilberto's Tanto Tempo is as entrancing a debut album as one could hope for - bewitching hipsters the world over with its dreamy digitally enhanced bossa nova blend.
Given her current status as the artist behind the most ubiquitous coffee house album since Portishead's Dummy, it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to find João's daughter teaming up with a slew of electronica heavy hitters for an all-star dancefloor makeover.
The end result is really something quite special, an expansive, dud-free remix collection that takes in everything from Peter Kruder's pulsing Germanic soundscapes to the smooth grooves of soul-kingpins Rae & Christian.
If you already own Tanto Tempo, consider Remixes an essential companion piece. If you don't - well, get off your skinny ass, hit the record store, and make a much-needed investment in your aural health.
Flaunt
Bebel Gilberto's highly successful debut album, Tanto Tempo, crossed over to many a young dance aficionado, and to further attract this market, the album's 11 songs have been repackaged in 13 new mixes by as many producers. All stay faithful to Gilberto's bossa nova roots. The result is a consistency of style rare in the remix world, making this less an overhaul than a most satisfying alternative version.
NY Newsday
For those who can't get enough of Gilberto, this recording, is big excitement. Gilberto (daughter of Brazilian songwriter João Gilberto) is an obvious candidate for dance-floor remixes. For the open-minded, it's another dimension to the delicious Bebel.
