(1969) Rerelease of the classic album from 1969. Audio CD. Imported from Brazil.

Liner Notes (excerpt)
The tragic death in 1982 of the unique and irreplaceable Elis Regina has lent a special significance and poignance to this Compact Disc rerelease of one of her happiest and most memorable albums, recorded in Sweden in 1969. In those days, when Elis had her first love affair with Europe, it seemed that the youthful energy and vitality that radiated from her tiny, elfin figure were eternal. So too with the rhythms that seemed to permeate her whole being and the astonishing range of texture, cynamic, and expression in that extraordinary voice which, like the song of the thrush, always seemed bigger than the throat that produced it.

Brilliant!! Stunning!! Pure Magic!!!
Two thumbs up! Recorded during a "howling snowstorm" in Stockholm Sweden of all places, Elis and Toots conjured up a steaming mid-summer Brazilian beach in the studio. They are accompanied by her group Elis Cinco, who are uniformly brilliant and audibly enthusiastic. Elis, herself, is absolutely incredible, singing with a wide range of emotions and tossing off gymnastic phrases with ease. She wields her voice like a knief, cutting quickly and deeply. Toots is equally brilliant and the entire ensemble plays like old friends. I speak no Portuguese but this music is as clear as a crystal. No translation needed, message delivered. When I initially heard this CD I was stunned for the next hour. It was the first time I really concentrated on Elis' music and her awesome technique. As a jazz fan, I know singers and this singer was someone very, very special. She understood nuance, emotion, improvisation, the blues, how to deliver a knockout punch, and leave you wanting more. It's no wonder they called her 'The Hurricane'. Now I'm collecting more Elis recordings and have just purchased the first CD cut by her awesomely talented daughter, Maria Rita. As much as I will always love Gal Costa, Elis (twenty years after her tragic accidental death) has stolen my musical heart. She ranks up there with Ella, Sarah, Judy Garland, and Carmen. Believe me, this is a required recording for all music fans. Snowstorm? What Snowstorm!! LOL — RBSProds
