Liner Notes
I come from Brazil. This should be enough to explain every possible contradiction one can find in my
music, or in myself. In my particular case, because of my origins -- a Brazilian mother and a Danish father,
whom I only met at the age of fifteen -- mixed up as much as the origins of the whole Brazilian people. The
country is a contradiction itself. A very rich country with a very poor people. The eighth largest economy
of the world, it is also one of the first in poverty, according to the specialists of the U.N. Computers of the
highest technology are being built at the same time as rubbertappers like Chico Mendes are being killed in
the forstes by the big landowners. Brazilians live at the same time in the 19th and 21st Centuries.
On the other hand, we have maybe the greatest musical resource of the planet. An enormous variety
of rhythm, styles and aesthetics, combined with marvelous lyricists and inspired songwriters, talented
singers and musicians, and a very special ability to absorb the influences that come from abroad, giving a
Brazilian taste to any of them. I do believe that this can be the sound of the future. I could bet my life
on that.
