The music of Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso did not please the military government that was in power in 1969. They were arrested and forced into exile, but they returned three years later and are still going strong.

Brazilian Routes
The phrase, "Brazilian Routes" describes the way I live and work with my music.
No matter what results I want, I will always have great influence and direction of the
Brazilian way. That's how this CD was made. We recorded some American standards with that
Brazilian approach. Some of the tracks were done in Brazil and, as always, it was a very
inspiring experience. Other tunes recorded in New York brought to the CD that city's unique
energy.
The tune "Route 66" is very significant in this project because I actually traveled across
the United States in 1996 on that famous highway, and I had Pamela with me. So, to remember
our wonderful adventure, we went to Brazil and recorded this American standard with
Brazilian musicians in a totally Brazilian way. That is what "Brazilian Routes" is all about!
