The Amazing Simone Guimaraes !!
This is the wonderful 1996 MPB debut by one of Brazil's best. Simone
is an artist of great focus and wide variety, all delivered by an astounding
group of support musicians and her truly amazing voice. Only ten songs, a
mixture of instrumentals and vocals, but they are AWESOME. She takes us on
a trip thru Brazil, thru nature, and thru diverse musical forms to a state of
pure love and happiness. Paulo Jobim (yes, that Jobim) and Simone sound
like a 21st Century 'Elis and Tom'.
The lilting samba "Tamandua" (Anteater) is both promise and warning. The
forro "Lambari", with it's wild accordion backing, will have you dancing.
Simone's beautiful too-seldom-heard upper middle register on "Felicidade" is
pure joy, shared with Jose Alves' stellar vocal performance. "Vida Do Rio",
"Laranjeiras" (Orange Trees), and "Priacema" are exceptionally beautiful. If you
haven't heard Simone, this is the place to start. You'll buy more. She's great!
The remastering is outstanding!
