Synopsis
Capoeira is a fusion of martial arts and dance, which originated among African slaves in colonial Brazil. It is a dance inside a circle of people dancing to the sound of the berimbau, a percussion instrument of African origin. Opposed by the Brazilian authorities until the beginning of the twentieth century. Today capoeira is regarded as a national sport.
