Brazilian cinema waned in the 1990's after President Collor, who was later
impeached, halted government support of the film industry. There has been a resurgance
of Brazilian films in recent years, and the installation of Gilberto Gil as
Minister of Culture in 2002 coincided with the release of a number of great new movies.
Most of these movies have subtitles in English, but some don't. Please read the descriptions
carefully if you do not speak Portuguese.
