Brazilian rock draws its greatest influences from the imported rock sounds of British and American bands, in contrast to the Popular Brazilian Music, which has more roots in Tropicalia and Bossa Nova. The music of Legião Urbana has a classic rock flavor, but even their cover of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" is performed in their own distinctive style. With artists like Serbian-born Suba, the European influence is much more personal, and one singer from Rio de Janeiro joined with two musicians from Holland to form the bossa techno band Zuco 103. The Raimundos started off playing covers of their favorite American band, The Ramones. Foreign influence also shows up as a reggae beat in much of the music of Os Paralamas do Sucesso. But as always cultural elements from overseas are transformed into a new shape that makes it original, intense, and uniquely Brazilian.
