The Pelourinho neighborhood of Salvador has some of the best preserved colonial architecture in South America.
|
Salvador,
the capital of Bahia, faces the Baía de Todos os Santos (All Saints' Bay),
from which Bahia gets its name.
The Pelourinho neighborhood as been restored and is now full of small shops
and restaurants. It is also home to the SENAC cooking school, where you can
indulge in a buffet of traditional baiana cooking.
Salvador has the greatest popular Carnaval in Brazil, when great local artists
like Daniela Mercury and Cheiro de Amor play atop trio elétricos trucks or
buses turned into parade floats.
